Head over heels in love: Ski ace has married

Ding, dong! Wedding bells are ringing again in the skiing circus. This time, a Swiss giant slalom skier has taken the plunge.

The winter wasn't easy for Swiss giant slalom skier Livio Simonet: In eight World Cup races, the Swiss only managed to score points once, finishing 27th in Sölden. However, spring offered two highlights – one sporting and one personal.

At the beginning of April, the 26-year-old raced to a surprise gold medal at the Swiss Championships, thus giving himself a present. His greatest victory, however, came a few weeks later when he married his longtime girlfriend, Melanie. "She's mine now," he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo in which Simonet casually gazes into the camera while his Melanie gazes at him with loving eyes. "Find someone who looks at you the way she looks at me," the ski ace wrote.

Simonet had already announced his wedding after his victory at the Swiss Championships. "My fiancée was in the finish area today, and I was able to hug her there. We're getting married soon," he said at the time. His wife Melanie is his biggest fan; she often accompanies him to races, sometimes even as far away as Norway.

Simonet has already won a World Cup race in his career. In 2022, he won the team event with the Swiss team at the World Cup finals in Courchevel. The Swiss skier has competed in a total of 31 World Cup races during his career. Simonet will compete in the future as a newlywed husband.
