“I pray for her”: Lindsey Vonn is sad

Ski queen Lindsey Vonn made an impressive comeback on the big World Cup stage. Now she's also demonstrating human greatness.

Lindsey Vonn has stunned the skiing world in recent months. In her comeback after a five-year hiatus, the American immediately found herself competing with the best in the World Cup, crowning her return with a second-place finish in Sun Valley. A podium finish at the age of 40 and with a partial knee replacement – that's truly an achievement to be admired.

Lindsey Vonn is not only a great athlete, but also a great human being. She recently demonstrated this at the World Sports Awards in Madrid, where her thoughts were with Federica Brignone. The newly crowned overall World Cup winner suffered a serious injury after a brutal fall at the Italian Championships. "It made me very sad. I wrote her a message on Instagram," Vonn explains.

Brignone's grim diagnosis was a double fracture with displacement of the tibial plateau and fibular head, as well as a torn cruciate ligament in her left leg. Even her doctors don't know when "Fede" will return. "I hope she comes back soon. She truly had a fantastic season. We stood on the podium together in Sun Valley, and what she achieved this year was simply impressive. She deserves to be at the Olympic Games back home in Italy. I'm praying for Federica that she'll be back soon. If anyone can do it, it's her."

These are strong words from Lindsey Vonn, who will be appearing on the ski circuit again next season. The 40-year-old wants to fulfill another dream by competing at the Olympic Games in Cortina and Milan.
