Kriechmayr wins Super-G farce in Beaver Creek

The Super-G in Beaver Creek dragged on like a piece of chewing gum. The race was interrupted several times and was ultimately abandoned. In the end, Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr stood on the top step of the podium.

In the shadow of the World Championship draw in Washington, a men's speed skiing World Cup race took place in the USA on Friday. However, the conditions in Beaver Creek, Colorado, were far from ideal. Fog and snowfall forced a postponement of the start before the competition finally got underway.

However, the race itself had to be interrupted several times, and at one point strong winds also picked up. The conditions varied from racer to racer, making it an unfair competition. After 31 racers, the Super-G was interrupted again and subsequently not resumed. This doesn't affect the overall standings. A race must have started for it to be valid – and that number has been reached.

Kriechmayr wins, Paris narrowly misses the podium

At the end of the race, Vincent Kriechmayr stood on the top step of the podium. The Austrian had a lead of 56 hundredths of a second over Federik Möller (NOR). Raphael Haaser finished a distant third (+1,03 seconds). Dominik Paris, the best Italian, narrowly missed the podium, finishing 12 hundredths of a second behind Haaser.

Giovanni Franzoni (10th) was another Italian to finish in the top ten. Guglielmo Bosca (21st), Mattia Casse (22nd), and Christof Innerhofer (23rd) also made it into the standings. A total of 25 skiers crossed the finish line. Several top athletes, such as Cameron Alexander, Franjo von Allmen, and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, did not finish.
