Marcel Hirscher is missing in Sölden

Marcel Hirscher, who is recovering from a cruciate ligament tear, will miss the opening World Cup giant slalom in Sölden on Sunday.

Patrick Riml, project manager for Hirscher's sponsor Red Bull, announced this on Monday on Servus TV. "Unfortunately, he won't be competing. His rehab went really well, things were looking very good, but unfortunately he's been ill for the last two and a half weeks," Riml said, referring to the resulting missed training days.

Hirscher from Salzburg, who competes for the Netherlands, only made his first turns on the snow at the beginning of September, nine months after tearing his cruciate ligament.
