The transfer market is currently bustling not only in football and ice hockey, but also in the alpine skiing world. Of course, in this environment, it's not possible for an athlete to simply change clubs (or associations); instead, the transfer activity here revolves around ski brands.

And one man has been particularly busy in recent weeks: Marcel Hirscher is expanding his ski brand Van Deer. The eight-time overall World Cup winner recently signed Max Franz, the first Austrian speed athlete, and now Hirscher has even signed a runner-up to the World Cup: AJ Ginnis will now be racing with Van Deer equipment.

The Hirscher brand announced the news on Instagram on Tuesday: "Welcome to the team, AJ Ginnis. From the sunny shores of Greece to the highest peaks. We're beyond excited to see your Greek vibes on the slopes."

Following Henrik Kristoffersen, Timon Haugan, and Max Franz, this is the next big name to join Marcel Hirscher's team. Ginnis's story is a special one. Raised in Greece, the skier paved his way into the Ski World Cup and caused a major sensation at the 2023 Ski World Championships in Courchevel when he was crowned runner-up in the slalom.

Recently, things haven't been going as planned for Ginnis: He had to abandon the last season after just two races due to knee problems. Now the 30-year-old, who has been using Fischer skis, wants to attack with new equipment.
