Mourning in the skiing world: A slalom heroine is dead

She was once one of the best slalom skiers in the world, now a Polish skiing legend has died at the age of 62.

She undoubtedly left her mark on the skiing world. Dorota Mogore-Tlalka was one of the best slalom skiers in the world in the 80s and managed to lead her home country, Poland, to the very top. Now she has died at the age of 62. As the Polish Ski Federation announced, the former top athlete lost her battle with a long and serious illness.

In 1984, Mogore-Tlalka celebrated her greatest success when she won the slalom in Madonna di Campiglio. She competed in the World Cup 42 times, placing in the top 10 29 times. Together with her twin sister Malgorzata, Mogore-Tlalka became the first Polish woman to reach the top of the world skiing scene and represented her home country at two Olympic Games and four World Championships.

Two sisters marry two brothers

There's a special anecdote from Mogore-Tlalka's private life. She married French sports journalist Christian Mogore – and on the same day, her twin sister also married Mogore's brother. After the wedding, both ski racers took French citizenship, and after the ban imposed by the Polish Ski Federation expired, both competed for Les Bleus.
