The Swiss ski star thrilled his home crowd at Chuenisbärgli in snowfall and heavy cloud cover, clocking a time of 1:14.40 minutes, nearly half a second faster than Brazil's Lucas Pinheiro Braathen. Norway's Timon Haugen is lurking in third place (+0,53 seconds).
Odermatt is thus on course for his fifth consecutive Adelboden giant slalom victory. Only Ingemar Stenmark (1979 to 1984) has achieved this feat so far.
Alex Vinatzer from Val Gardena is in seventh place after the first run, 0,97 seconds behind the Swiss skier. Tobias Kastlunger from Kastelruth, meanwhile, has clearly missed qualifying for the second run of the top 30, finishing 51st (+4,25). The decisive run starts at 1:30 p.m. SportNews-Live ticker so you don't miss anything.
