Austria's former ski hope has had enough

Alpine technical specialist Elisabeth Kappaurer announced her retirement from active ski racing on Friday. She has a special connection to South Tyrol.

The 31-year-old from Vorarlberg, who is repeatedly plagued by injuries, emphasized in a press release from the ÖSV that it was time to “listen to the signals from my body and open a new chapter in my life.”

Kappaurer made her World Cup debut ten years ago and finished in the top 47 10 times in 15 races. In 2014, she was also crowned Junior World Champion in the Super Combined.

The Austrian is no stranger to South Tyrol either, as she has been in a relationship with Christoph Atz from Kaltern for years. The 30-year-old was once a promising skier himself, but has now worked as a service technician in the World Cup for many years. In the past, he was also responsible for ski preparation for the Austrian women's team.
