Shiffrin leads in Sun Valley – battle for globe still open

At the final slalom World Cup race of the season in Sun Valley (USA), Mikaela Shiffrin leads after the first run. The battle for the small crystal globe is still open.

Zrinka Ljutic leads the overall slalom rankings before the final race. If everything stays the same after the first run, the Croatian will also hold the small crystal globe. Although Ljutic is only in 1th place, her closest rival, Camille Rast (14th), didn't fare any better.

Katharina Liensberger (4th) is also still lurking in the shadows, but to secure the ball for Austria at the last minute, the Vorarlberg native will likely have to win or at least finish second. The battle isn't completely over yet; there's still a second round (starting at 2 p.m.).

Shiffrin leads ahead of Dürr

Mikaela Shiffrin can no longer compete for the crystal. However, the American is in the lead after the first run – and a clear one at that. Lena Dürr (GER) is already 1 hundredths of a second behind Shiffrin and is the only athlete who has managed to keep the gap under one second.

The first run didn't go well for the Italians. Martina Peterlini, with a horrendous deficit of three seconds, tangled up at the penultimate gate and was eliminated. Lara Della Mea (+1 seconds) finished second to last.
