Without the necessary adrenaline rush, you won't get very far on the grand stage of alpine skiing. Swiss speed star Franjo von Allmen pursues his thrills away from the icy slopes – namely, on his motocross bike.

If you make it down the infamous Streif in one piece, you're truly a seasoned athlete. Whether it's the Mousetrap, the Seidlalm Jump, or the Finish Jump – the skiing elite in Kitzbühel not only have to survive on the slopes at top speeds, but also demonstrate their flying skills. Franjo von Allmen was one of the modern gladiators who most consistently managed this constant balancing act throughout the entire season. In Wengen, Crans-Montana, and Kvitfjell, he celebrated the first three World Cup victories of his career, and in Saalbach, he crowned himself Downhill World Champion. The thrill is his fuel.
Speaking of which: Even a month after the Swiss Championships and the end of the season, the 23-year-old can't completely do without it. Rather, von Allmen has tapped into a different source of adrenaline and swapped his skis for a much louder means of transport, with which he achieves equally impressive jumps.
Von Allmen needs balance
“I think I’m looking for a bit of balance through motocross,” he said, summing up his fascination for motorsport on two wheels in an interview with the Swiss View "On the motorcycle, I can get some distance from the ski season and still somehow live it up." On his Instagram account, he regularly shares his fans from all over the world with him on his outings on the track. It also becomes clear that his hobby is by no means new.Franjo von Allmen isn't just fast on the slopes. © ANSA / JEAN-CHRISTOPHE BOTT
"I sometimes did some capricious things on the road with my motorcycle and didn't always receive positive feedback," von Allmen reflected on his early days. "So, for safety's sake, I decided to switch to the track."
Von Allmen: A new adventure soon?
On the ski slopes, von Allmen sometimes hits the 140 km/h mark, but on the motocross track, the speed limit is quickly reached. Could he imagine pushing it even further on a tough circuit and perhaps even surpassing his top speeds from the World Cup? "There are many things I'd like to try. Riding a circuit, for example, would be really cool," said von Allmen. Perhaps the Swiss rider will soon take his followers on a new adventure.Edit Profile
