Swiss ski star: From the dream vacation to the operating table

Aline Danioth is known in the ski circus as the lady who never loses her smile. And so the slalom specialist found her optimism again even after her fourth (!) cruciate ligament tear - thanks in part to a true dream vacation. The Swiss recently spent three weeks touring the USA in a van with a friend.

In mid-May, Danioth wrote on social media: “After my cruciate ligament surgery, I had the crazy idea of ​​driving in a van to places I had always wanted to see. I asked a friend if she would be there and she said yes. And, wow, what a brilliant time we had? We drove through six US states, visited mountains, deserts, huge cities, the ocean.”

Danioth had a truly exciting time. “We hiked through beautiful national parks in heat and cold, slept in our baby van in beautiful but scary places, we appreciated a shower and clean water like never before. And for me the most important thing: I lived in the moment and didn’t think about the worries of the future.”

Specifically, the ski star was in Yellowstone National Park, in the desert of Utah, in the gorges of the Grand Canyon, on the beach in San Diego, but also in Las Vegas. “This trip was exactly what I needed. I was able to charge my batteries for the next few weeks,” says Danioth.

Now the operation

When she arrived home in Switzerland, the operating table was immediately waiting for the friendly slalom lady. After tearing her cruciate ligament at the beginning of March, she had already had one operation, but now another procedure was waiting on her knee, which Danioth had carried out this week. “It's not easy to have surgery again. But I know that this is an important step for my health and my career,” says the 25-year-old combatively.

For Aline Danioth it is clear: she wants to return to the ski stage even after her fourth cruciate ligament tear. She proved last season that she is an excellent skier: She made it onto the podium twice in the European Cup and came a strong sixth at the World Championships in Méribel.
