Two Italian women are giving it their all in St. Moritz

The second downhill training run for the women's speed season opener took place on Thursday in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Two Italian skiers impressed.

Sofia Goggia and Laura Pirovano posted the third and fourth fastest times, respectively, in the second training run. Goggia had already been among the best the previous day, when Lindsey Vonn set the fastest time. However, the American skier did not finish on Thursday. Neither did... Michelle Gisin, whose serious fall overshadowed the training.

The fastest training time was set by Swiss skier Joana Hählen, who, starting with bib number 56, even managed to beat the time of the long-time leader Ester Ledecka. The top ten were separated by just 63 hundredths of a second. South Tyrolean skiers Nicol Delago (26th), Vicky Bernardi (33rd), Nadia Delago (36th/with a gate error), and Sara Thaler (48th) were not in contention for the fastest times.

The action kicks off in St. Moritz on Friday with the first downhill race of the season at 10:15 a.m., followed immediately by the second on Saturday (10:45 a.m.). The season concludes on Sunday (10:45 a.m.) with a Super-G in the prestigious Swiss ski resort.
