Unfamiliar territory: Shiffrin becomes a football investor

Mikaela Shiffrin is entering the soccer business in her home state of Colorado – as an enthusiastic investor.

Mikaela Shiffrin lifted the ball with her feet nine times, then turned to the camera with a look that was half-astonished, half-proud – and burst out laughing. The reason for her unusual Instagram appearance? Quite simple: The queen of alpine skiing is now extending her reach into soccer. "I'm thrilled to join the ownership group at Denver NWSL and support something that means so much to the community I call home," Shiffrin is quoted as saying in a press release from Colorado's first professional soccer team.

“Being involved and helping to bring professional women’s soccer to Colorado is not only an incredible investment opportunity, but also an honor and a joy,” said the two-time Olympic champion.

Denver praises collaboration with Shiffrin

The club itself is thrilled to support Shiffrin. "Mikaela's commitment to excellence, her global influence, and her deep Colorado roots make her a perfect fit," said principal owner Rob Cohen. "We are building a club with purpose, and having Mikaela's vision and voice on that journey will be invaluable."

Denver NWSL is the first professional women's soccer team in Colorado. The club announced a temporary 12.000-seat stadium and state-of-the-art performance center in Centennial, Colorado, and plans to build a permanent home in downtown Denver. The club will begin NWSL play in 2026.
