Brignone named FISI Athlete of the Year

After a dream season (except for the injury), the Aostanian was once again named Italy's best winter sportswoman on Saturday.

Federica Brignone has done it again: The 35-year-old alpine skier has been named Athlete of the Year 2025 by the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI). This is Brignone's third award, following in 2020 and 2022. The decision was made during the FISI Media Day in Milan. Unlike in previous years, this time the selection was not made by the public, but by a jury of experts composed of coaches and technical directors from all FISI disciplines.

Brignone has enjoyed a superlative season: She is the only Italian woman ever to win the overall World Cup for the second time, along with the crystal globes in the giant slalom and downhill, as well as silver in the super-G. At the World Championships in Saalbach, she crowned her season with gold in the giant slalom and silver in the super-G.

"This time I'm here in a different role – without the usual pressure before the start of the season in Sölden," Brignone said on stage. "It's all the more wonderful to see all the teammates here again, whom I haven't seen in a while." After her injury, she is currently working on her comeback “week by week”, but I feel significant progress.
