Paris cracks Kvitfjell double and draws level with Thöni

Six years ago, Dominik Paris achieved the speed double in Kvitfjell (NOR), consisting of a victory in the downhill and the super-G. Now the Ultner has repeated this feat and set a record at the same time.

Victory on Friday, 6th place on Saturday, victory on Sunday. Dominik Paris's Kvitfjell record this year is impressive. For the second time in his career (after 2), the 2019-year-old from St. Walburg in Ulten has won the speed double in Kvitfjell.

Paris seems to feel right at home on the Norwegian spring snow. No one has won the downhill in Kvitfjell more often than the South Tyrolean (4) and no one could hold a candle to him in the Super-G on Sunday either. On the relatively short course (the start had to be moved down due to fog), Paris showed his class from top to bottom. At the finish, the Ultner was 38 hundredths faster than the previous leader James Crawford (CAN).

Hrobat pushes Odermatt off the podium

The battle for third place on the podium was open for a long time. Marco Odermatt, who has never won in Kvitfjell, could not match the time from Paris (+3 seconds). In the end, the Swiss superstar was pushed down to fourth place by a hundredth of a second by Miha Hrobat (SLO).

None of the other Azzurri made it into the top 10. Giovanni Franzoni (+0,81) was the best behind Paris, Christof Innerhofer (+1,30) lost a lot of time. Mattia Casse is injured after his training crash and can therefore no longer take part in the fight for the crystal globe.

Paris catches up with Thöni

Paris' victory in Kvitfjell also has an impact on the South Tyrolean ski history books. The Ultner has now equalled skiing legend Gustav Thöni in the all-time rankings, who has celebrated 24 World Cup victories in his career. Paris also now has 24 victories, but still has a chance to surpass the icon from Vinschgau.
