Once considered one of Austria's greatest talents, Elisabeth Reisinger's development was hampered by numerous injuries. Nevertheless, the Upper Austrian can look back on remarkable successes. She won seven European Cup races, won the overall ranking in this category in 2019, and placed in the top 10 in the World Cup five times.
However, Reisinger's career was also marked by many setbacks and injuries. She suffered an open fracture of her tibia and fibula, tore her cruciate ligament twice, and damaged her menisci and tibial plateau.
Ende der Reise
"The path hasn't always been easy. In recent years, I've spent more time on comebacks than on the slopes. Broken bones, torn cruciate ligaments, surgeries, setbacks—I gave it my all, fought again and again, worked my way back, often against the doubts in my own head," Reisinger writes on social media.Elisabeth Reisinger has had enough. © APA / EXPA/JOHANN GRODER
This time has shaped her and now led her to draw a line under it. "After many years in ski racing, countless races, highs and lows, today is the moment for me to end my active career as a ski racer. I am infinitely grateful for every day I was able to stand on skis – for every start, every finish line, every success – but also for the setbacks that made me stronger. Thank you, ski racing. You taught me what it means to fight, to fall, and to get back up again," the 28-year-old concludes her message.
