Injury shock for Teresa Runggaldier

Marcel Hirscher's cruciate ligament tear, Mikaela Shiffrin's long absence - and now Teresa Runggaldier's serious injury. The bad news from the ski circus doesn't stop on Tuesday.

There is bitter news from Teresa Runggaldier, who has been training in Copper Mountain over the last few days and was scheduled to compete in the World Cup downhill and a super-G on December 14 and 15 in Beaver Creek. But that will not happen because the Val Gardena native sustained a serious knee injury during training.

In a fall, Runggaldier tore her cruciate ligament and also broke the tibial head in her right knee. This means the 25-year-old's season is over before it has even begun. Runggaldier is already on her way home, where she will be examined further by doctors from the Italian winter sports association FISI.

Runggaldier made her breakthrough in the World Cup last year and achieved her best placings in Crans Montana (11th/Downhill) and Kvitfjell (13th/Super-G).
