Lead at halftime: Meillard wants to add to it in the slalom

After his giant slalom victory on Saturday, Loic Meillard followed suit about 24 hours later. The Swiss is leading after the first run of the slalom in Hafjell (NOR).

Starting the race with starting number 3, Meillard delivered a nearly perfect run. The Swiss rider is currently leading by 34 hundredths of a second over Lucas Braathen (BRA), who somewhat surprisingly finished second.

Behind Braathen, Fabio Gstrein (+0,44/AUT) and Clement Noel (+0,52) are waiting to trip up the two top runners in the final. Behind the top four, a whole host of Norwegians follow: Atle Lie McGrath (+4), Henrik Kristoffersen (+0,53), and Timon Haugan (+0,84) will do everything they can to make a leap forward in the second round of their home race.

Many retirements, Vinatzer forgoes start

The first run in Hafjell was quite a challenge. Numerous top riders, including Manuel Feller, Steven Amiez, and Kristoffer Jacobsen, failed to finish. Alex Vinatzer from Val Gardena, who was scheduled to start with number 1, decided not to compete. The reason: a minor lower leg injury sustained in the giant slalom on Saturday.

The second round in Hafjell begins at 2:12.30 p.m. The SportNews live ticker will then provide you with all the information and the latest standings from the last World Cup race before the season finale in the USA.
