A rare sight: Even today's most successful female skier can be astounded. Mikaela Shiffrin recently demonstrated this in an emotional moment.

Normally, Mikaela Shiffrin leaves everyone speechless. The best female skier of all time has broken one record after another in recent years and, in February, became the first ever to break the 100-win World Cup mark.

But there are also moments when Mikaela Shiffrin herself is amazed. One such moment occurred recently and involved her brother. Taylor Shiffrin (32) ensured that her younger sister Mikaela (30) was both proud and astonished with an extraordinary athletic performance.

"There are many reasons why I look up to my big brother, but this might top them all," Shiffrin wrote on Instagram and began to explain. Her brother Taylor had recently bumped into an old friend – former professional cyclist Cristhian Ravelo – by chance, and the two have decided to go on more bike tours together in the future.

A wild bike race

Taylor's passion for cycling was completely captivated, and the idea of racing was born. The two tackled the Leadville 100 – a highly challenging mountain bike race covering 169 kilometers and at an elevation of approximately 3.000 meters.

"Taylor prepared intensively for six weeks – even though he works full-time as a data analyst," Mikaela said, impressed. The older brother ultimately completed the race with flying colors – and found Mikaela absolutely thrilled at the finish line.

"I'm speechless... completely stunned... simply overwhelmed..." she congratulated her brother. There were also some emotional words. "Honestly, Taylor. You're the coolest. I'm so inspired," said Mikaela Shiffrin. Yes, even a ski superstar can be overwhelmed sometimes – especially when it comes to their own family.
