33rd World Cup victory and 15th in the giant slalom: Federica Brignone is in a class of her own. The 34-year-old won her home race in Sestriere, despite being sick in bed for six days and taking antibiotics to the start. As in the World Cup giant slalom, Brignone won ahead of New Zealander Alice Robinson.
Brignone and Robinson are currently in a class of their own. With the fastest time, “Fede” left her opponent four tenths behind. The third-placed runner, Thea Louise Stjernesund, was already 4 seconds behind at the finish. “I don’t know how I managed it today,” said Brignone with a grin at the finish.

In the giant slalom World Cup, Brignone is still 80 points behind Robinson. But in the overall World Cup, she has extended her lead to 170 points. Her pursuer, Lara Gut-Behrami, was eliminated in the first run. In this form, Brignone could win the big crystal globe for the second time after 2020. The second best Azzurra - in front of Alberto Tomba - was Sofia Goggia in 13th place. Mikaela Shiffrin, on the other hand, did not get going at all and fell from 18th place at halftime to 25th place. The only South Tyrolean, Elisa Platino, was eliminated in the first run. The second giant slalom in Sestriere will take place on Saturday (11am/14pm).
