In Thöni’s footsteps: Paris can still do it

Towards the end of the World Cup season, Dominik Paris is really coming into his own: after his podium finish in Crans-Montana, the powerhouse from Ulten went one better in the downhill at Kvitfjell.

Dominik Paris is a phenomenon: The 35-year-old won in Kvitfjell for the fifth time on Friday - and for the fourth time in the downhill. The Olympiabakken in Norway is tailor-made for Paris.

Paris, with starting number 10, left the Swiss quartet consisting of Marco Odermatt, Stefan Rogentin, Franjo von Allmen and Alexis Monney behind. The South Tyrolean gained a lot of time, especially in the middle section, and distanced Odermatt by a total of 32 hundredths of a second. On the final slope he had by far the top speed at 134 km/h.

Only one victory behind Gustav Thöni

For Paris, it is the first triumph in the World Cup since his victory in Val Gardena 15 months ago. Overall, "Domme" has already celebrated his 23rd victory in the elite class and is now only one behind Gustav Thöni (24). The speed specialist has achieved 19 of these in the downhill. The fact is: Dominik Paris is already a real skiing legend!

Florian Schieder lost more than two seconds to Paris and is currently in 18th place. Christof Innerhofer lost a lot of time at the bottom and finished in 20th place. There will be another downhill race in Kvitfjell on Saturday. There will also be a Super-G on Sunday. Both races will start at 10.30 a.m. So the weekend is far from over for Paris!
