Sad ski retirement: "I love you, but..."
Shortly after the end of the season, the German ski team announced a prominent retirement. A retirement that was also quite emotional.

Her career was a constant rollercoaster of emotions. It's hardly surprising, then, that Roni Remme's last Instagram post as a skier is also full of emotion. On the social network, the Canadian, who competed in 73 World Cup races and competed for the German Ski Association since 2022, announced the end of her career.
"Skiing, I love you, but now it's time to say goodbye," writes the 29-year-old, continuing poetically: "We knew it couldn't last forever, and it wasn't the ending we expected. But no one can say we didn't try everything possible."

Remme is referring to a difficult year she endured. She was set back by injuries, had to find a new service man mid-season, and never really managed to get into shape (or into the World Cup points). In previous years, Remme had already struggled with her knee.
She once stood on the World Cup podium
"I think it's incredibly rare for an athlete to retire and feel like they've truly achieved every goal—and I certainly haven't. But I still wouldn't change anything, even if I had the chance. Because everything I've experienced has made me the person I am today," Remme said emotionally.February 2019: Roni Remme (left) beams from the podium with Federica Brignone (center) and Wendy Holdener. © AFP / FABRICE COFFRINI
Now the Canadian is embarking on a new life and closing the chapter of her skiing career. It was a very exciting chapter. The all-rounder Remme was once one of the Canadian ski team's high hopes and even made it to the World Cup podium in February 2019, finishing second in the Alpine Combined in Crans Montana. A few days earlier, she narrowly missed a medal at the World Championships in Åre – also in the Combined – by finishing fifth.
But that wasn't the breakthrough she'd hoped for. Instead, Remme struggled with a drop in performance that cost her her spot on the Canadian team. She moved to Germany in 2022, and now her career is over.
