Ski dream couple is engaged

Stephanie Venier is in luck: After her World Championship triumph in Saalbach, the North Tyrolean is currently experiencing a high point not only in her sport but also in her private life.

As she announced on Instagram, she and her ÖSV colleague Christian Walder are engaged. "Are you ready, @christianwalder?" the 31-year-old captioned photos from her bridal shower, which was also attended by fellow skiers Nadine Fest, Tamara Tippler, and Ramona Siebenhofer.

The couple's relationship became public at the beginning of 2024. A controversial fact: Before his relationship with Venier, Walder was in a relationship with her teammate Cornelia Hütter for ten years. Walder, now 33, has repeatedly struggled with injury problems in recent years and last competed in the World Cup almost three years ago. The Carinthian has reached the podium there once to date.

While wedding preparations are likely underway privately, Venier's professional future remains unclear. Following her World Championship gold in the Super-G and criticism of ÖSV head coach Roland Assinger, she had raised the possibility of retirement. Venier stated that she would make a decision by August at the latest.
