Ski dream couple: Love on the other side of the world

As summer draws to a close here in Germany, many ski stars have found themselves on the other side of the world in winter. A special encounter took place there.

A love story between two ski superstars isn't always as simple as it seems at first glance. Especially during the intense winter months, the partners can go weeks without seeing each other. Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde know only too well what we're talking about. Since 2021, the two have been the dream couple of the winter sports scene, but due to their intense sporting lives, they often have to go long periods without each other.

This makes the time they get to spend together all the more valuable. And when that also applies to their work together, it's a double win. As luck would have it, both the Norwegian and US teams have set up their training camps in Chile in recent days – and so have Kilde and Shiffrin.

Shiffrin and Kilde have been engaged since last year.

Even though the primary focus was on getting back into the swing of things on skis, there was still time for some time together. Kilde posted a sweet video on Instagram of the dream couple cuddling together on a ski lift. Shiffrin and Kilde smiled from ear to ear at the camera, enjoying the moment to the fullest.

The two superstars have often been on a love deprivation this year. Shiffrin and Kilde didn't see each other for three months after the season. "It's not easy to be away from each other so often and for so long. But that's just part of being a skier. We never take the time we spend together for granted," Shiffrin said.

Kilde's return

There was another reason why Kilde was even more radiant than usual this time. After his brutal injury – sustained in the 2024 Wengen downhill – the former overall World Cup winner is making great progress on the slopes. Kilde missed the entire last winter and is determined to get back on the attack in the Olympic season. His sweetheart, Mikaela, is giving him the necessary support.
