Training in Copper Mountain has been intense and demanding over the past few weeks. The weekend was therefore a rest day before the pace picks up again for the speed season opener on Thursday (19 p.m. CET). Almost traditionally, the first speed races of the season are held overseas. For many years, they took place in Lake Louise (CAN), but since Lake Louise ceased hosting the event, the races have moved to Copper Mountain (USA).
However, Copper Mountain is a "soft opening" for the ski stars, as the real action doesn't begin until a week later in Beaver Creek. The Birds of Prey course there will host the first downhill race of the winter. In Copper Mountain, on the other hand, in addition to the Super-G, there's a giant slalom scheduled for Friday.
Peterlini returns
In addition to the men, the women's technical skiers have also traveled to Copper Mountain. A giant slalom (Saturday) and a slalom (Sunday) are on the program in the US state of Colorado. No skier from South Tyrol is on the team, but Martina Peterlini is returning after her injury break.Ski World Cup in Copper Mountain (USA)
