The Goggia madness! A hellish ride to victory

It's Sofia Goggia's big comeback weekend: after finishing second in the downhill, she went one better on Sunday and grabbed victory in the super-G - and in her usual spectacular manner.

In February, Sofia Goggia broke her shinbone and shinbone, and a period of suffering with many setbacks followed. It was not until the end of October that she stood on skis again. But in the same calendar year, she was back where she had sat for so long before: on the throne of the speed queen. She returned to the queen's office on Sunday - with an impressive victory in the Super-G in Beaver Creek.

The 32-year-old from Bergama took first place with a typical Goggia ride: she raced at the absolute limit for a good minute, occasionally even overshooting it, but then was faster than anyone else. Although she made a big mistake in the lower part of the course, Goggia was almost half a second faster than all of her competitors. At the finish, they watched in amazement as Goggia celebrated her 25th World Cup victory with a little dance in the best Lucas Braathen style.

“A race with attack, just like I am” Sofia Goggia

"Well, that wasn't a really clean run," said Goggia later in the winner's interview, "It was an attack race, just like me." In the end, she was so fast that Lara Gut-Behrami had to settle for second place despite a very good performance. The podium was completed by Austrian Ariane Rädler, who made it onto the World Cup podium for the second time in her career.

Vicky Bernardi also celebrates

With Federica Brignone (5th), Marta Bassino (6th) and Elena Curtoni (9th), three other Italians made it into the top ten, while Roberta Milesi (11th) narrowly missed out.

Vicky Bernardi from Val Gardena also achieved a great success, coming in 24th, her second-best World Cup result. She only came better in the Super-G in Cortina last January, when she came 18th. Sarah Thaler narrowly missed out on a points position, and Nicol Delago and her sister Nadia did not make it to the finish.
