Alexis Pinturault is one of the best and most complete skiers to have seen in recent decades. But the Frenchman has been plagued by bad luck recently. In January 2024, he tore his cruciate ligament in a fall in Wengen, and a few weeks ago he also suffered a knee injury in a serious crash in Kitzbühel, which ended his season.
A further cruciate ligament tear could be ruled out, but the former overall World Cup winner was hit hard with a broken bone in his knee and a meniscus injury. The soon-to-be 34-year-old then left the continuation of his career open in cryptic words.

But now Pinturault has spoken out again - and solved the mystery of his future: he will continue! "From the shadows into the light, once again," begins his post on Instagram. "Because I want to write the last pages of this book to the end, because it can't end like this. The path will be difficult, I know that, but I will do everything I can to shine again! One last dance in the giant slalom, just like on the first day," wrote Pinturault.
It sounds as if the Frenchman wants to stay on for one last season - and concentrate fully on the giant slalom. That would be a logical decision, after all he slipped out of the top 30 in the super-G and downhill and would therefore have to start far back. Pinturault is no longer active in the slalom.
