VIDEO | Federica Brignone gives ski fans hope

Federica Brignone returned to skiing for the first time at the end of November. Now the Italian has taken the next step.

It's a race against time, but Brignone is giving it her all to be at the starting line for the home Olympics in Cortina. Italy's Winter Sports Federation (FISI) shared a video on Saturday morning showing the Azzurra training on the slalom poles for the first time since the Games.

In Courmayeur (Aosta Valley), Brignone made his first giant slalom runs in preparation for a possible comeback at the Olympics in February. These look quite promising.

Brignone won the overall World Cup title for the second time last winter, along with a World Championship gold medal in giant slalom – and then suffered a serious knee injury shortly afterwards at the Italian Championships. The 35-year-old crashed in Val di Fassa, sustaining multiple fractures of the tibial plateau and fibular head, as well as a torn cruciate ligament.
