For Italy's downhill skiers, the winter so far has not gone as planned. However, the Azzurri have shown their collective skills in the first Wengen training session.

The fastest Azzurro on Tuesday at the first Lauberhorn training was Mattia Casse in third place. Casse is the best Italian in the speed disciplines this year and even celebrated his first World Cup victory in the Super-G in Val Gardena. Only the Canadian Cameron Alexander (he made a goal error) and the Austrian Otmar Striedinger were faster than Casse in Wengen.
Casse lost almost half a second to the fastest runner in training. Florian Schieder showed with a fifth place. Things are not going well for the Kastelruther this year. Schieder lost one and a half seconds to Alexander. Christoph Innerhofer (9.) and dominik paris (11th) were also at the top of the rankings, but each lost more than two seconds.

Of course, the training times should not be overestimated. For example, the Swiss local heroes Marco Odermatt and Franjo Von Almen (both are more than three seconds behind) did not reveal their cards. The downhill run in the Bernese Oberland (Switzerland) is known to be the longest in the World Cup and, alongside Kitzbühel, the most well-known in the ski circus.
