Austrian writes history with World Championship bronze

Lisa Hirner surprisingly won bronze in the normal hill competition in Trondheim and gave the Austrian Nordic combined athletes their first women's individual medal at the World Championships.

After winning mixed team bronze on Sunday, the Styrian won her second medal at the championships in Norway and her third overall (+7,5 seconds). Gold in the final women's combined competition in Trondheim went to local hero Gyda Westvold Hansen (13.42,9 minutes), while silver went to fellow countrywoman Ida Marie Hagen (+6,6).

“It’s amazing, I couldn’t have imagined it being better today. The race was fantastic,” said Hirner in an interview with ORF overjoyed. "I never thought that I could fight for gold until the last climb. Gyda and Ida were incredibly strong, I tried. They were better today, but I'm really happy with bronze," added Hirner, who also won bronze in the mixed team in Planica in 2023.

Dejori and Senoner line up at the back

In the end, Veronica Gianmoena from Trentino (26th/+3.20,4) became the best Azzurra in the field. The two Val Gardena women Daniela Dejori (29th/+3.41,0) and Anna Senoner (33rd/+4.39,4) had to settle further back, as did Greta Pinzani (35th/+5.12,9). This means that the Nordic World Ski Championships are over for the women's combined athletes. The men will compete for World Championship gold on Thursday and Saturday on the large hill in Trondheim.
