World Cup cancellation due to wind: No combination in Trondheim

The stormy weather in Trondheim has caused the cancellation of the Nordic Combined World Championships. This was announced by the world association FIS in Norway.

Strong winds have caused turbulence in the city and around the Granasen Skisenter since early Thursday morning. The ski jumping, which was scheduled to take place later anyway and start at 12.30 p.m., was postponed three times by around 15 minutes and then cancelled completely.

"It's not exactly easy. The conditions change very quickly. That makes it impossible to hold a safe competition," said national coach Eric Frenzel in his first reaction.
An emergency committee will now determine when the team competition can be rescheduled in a specially convened meeting.

On Thursday, the Nordic World Ski Championships in Norway will also host the cross-country relay and the ski jumping team competition. It is important for the FIS that the World Championship race receives appropriate TV coverage. The final individual event in the combination will take place on Saturday.

So far continuous rain instead of gusts

The strong gusts also caused some organizational challenges. Because the cross-country stadium was closed for a long time due to the storm, extremely long queues formed on the way to the competition venue. Banners were taken down for safety reasons.

In recent days, the wind has not been a problem in Trondheim. The competitions took place without any problems despite days of continuous rain. Germany is considered a clear medal candidate in the team competition.
