One missed shot separates Dorothea Wierer from the podium
Dorothea Wierer made an impressive comeback on Friday evening after her early exit from the World Championships due to illness. However, a mistake in the sprint in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic) prevented her from making it to the podium for the first time this season.

As with the men, the new start number rule was thrown overboard because of the adverse snow conditions in Nove Mesto. However, there was hardly any wind in the Czech winter sports, which is why the sprint was characterized by excellent shooting results. And so it was no surprise that a flawless athlete, Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (Norway), won the race. Dorothea Wierer, meanwhile, had to be a little annoyed, as she made one mistake too many, as she has so often done this season.
The 28-year-old Tandrevold ran a perfect race. She set the second fastest time, while at the same time she acted with great precision and calm on the shooting range. The reward was the fifth World Cup victory of her career - the first in over a year. The last time she was at the top was on March 1, 2024 in the individual event in Oslo. This marked the end of a difficult time for Tandrevold: after the Norwegian developed heart problems at the start of the season in Kontiolahti, she struggled with a lack of form. She never placed in the top 10 in an individual race. Now she is back where she belongs.

Dorothea Wierer, who came in a good ninth on Friday, is also hoping for a breakthrough. The gap to third place was only 3 seconds - the length of one penalty loop. The 23-year-old had to do this after she missed a target during the standing shooting. However, she has created a very good starting position for the pursuit, which is scheduled for Saturday at 34 p.m. Hannah Auchentaller (one mistake) impressed in 17.40th place, while Linda Zingerle missed out on the World Cup points.
French women strong
Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, who missed a shot, and the flawless Julia Simon provided French moments of happiness in second and third place. Lou Jeanmonnot finished fourth and thus gained many points on the overall World Cup leader Franziska Preuß, who had to settle for 2th place.Sprint in Nove Mesto, the result:
