The first biathlon baby of 2025 is here

A happy start to the new year for Franziska Hildebrand: The former German biathlon star has become a mother for the second time. The 37-year-old recently announced this on Instagram.

"When life is enriched by another miracle! Welcome, little man." Hildebrand recently shared this message with her fans on Instagram and added a picture showing the little hands of her two children. The former athlete kept the name of the second child to herself for now.

Hildebrand had her first child at a turbulent time: In September 2022, she became infected with COVID-19. A short time later, Franziska Preuß's companion made her pregnancy public and ended her sporting career shortly thereafter. Since then, Hildebrand has devoted herself to her family and has repeatedly appeared as an ambassador for the Bundeswehr running team.

Franziska Hildebrand was not only a fixture in German biathlon, but also an athlete who impressed with her consistency and strong nerves. She celebrated her international breakthrough with the relay world championship titles in Kontiolahti 2015 and Hochfilzen 2017, where she shone with flawless shooting and powerful final rounds.

Her 2015/16 season is particularly memorable: with several World Cup victories and an impressive fourth place in the overall ranking, she was the strongest German in the international field. Her confident performances as the final runner, in which she repeatedly scored the decisive hits in heated competition situations, are also remembered.

With her transition to family life, she is now showing a new facet of her ambition and mastering the challenges of everyday life with the same dedication that made her one of the most successful German athletes on the biathlon track.
