A Tyrolean fairytale at the Tour de Ski

The year 2025 could hardly have ended better for Benjamin Moser. The Tyrolean celebrated the first podium finish of his career on Wednesday at the Tour de Ski in Toblach.

On New Year's Eve, he finished second in the 5km heat mass start race in Toblach. The Tyrolean sprint specialist was only beaten by American Gus Schumacher by 0,2 seconds in the new format. Norwegian Lars Heggen came in third (+0,6). Moser had never previously finished in the top five; his record includes seven top-10 finishes.


Defending champion and overall leader Johannes Høsflot Klæbo had the lead in his heat, but in the final standings, the Norwegian star only managed twelfth place (+8,6). The 20km classic pursuit race is scheduled for Thursday.

Pellegrino misses out on the top 15

Federico Pellegrino emerged as the best Italian in the field. The 2017 world champion finished in 16th place (+9,2). He was followed by Elia Barp (19th/+9,8), Davide Graz (31st/+11,5), Francesco de Fabiani (33rd/+12,5), Simone Dapra (56th/17,2), Simone Mocellini (57th/+18,0), and Giacomo Gabrielli (96th/58,8). Michael Hellweger from Sarnen had to withdraw from the Tour de Ski due to a torn back. after only one race.
