Klaebo takes his 103rd World Cup victory in Toblach

The men's 20km pursuit race in the classic style took place on New Year's Day at the Nordic Arena in Toblach as part of the 20th edition of the Tour de Ski. Norwegian Johannes Heostflot Klaebo celebrated his 103rd World Cup victory in dominant fashion.

Superstar Johannes Heostflot Klaebo started the five-lap, four-kilometer loop in the Höhlenstein Valley with a 45-second lead over his nearest pursuers. The best Italian, Federico Pellegrino (+1 minute 16 seconds), started eighth.

Klaebo completed the 20 kilometers in commanding fashion, the 29-year-old keeping the first chase group, including Pellegrino, at bay. After 1:46.01,7 minutes, the Tour de Ski leader celebrated his 103rd World Cup victory, ahead of his teammate Mattis Stenshagen (+51,1 seconds).

Photo finish for 3rd place

Behind them, the photo finish decided the remaining places: Edvin Anger (SWE) and Federico Pellegrino (ITA) crossed the finish line simultaneously (+59,8). Anger, who finished the pursuit as the fastest runner, was awarded third place, while Pellegrino missed the podium by a hair's breadth. The second-best Italian was Elia Barp (+1:54.8 minutes) in 14th place.

Klaebo has extended his lead in the overall standings and goes into the sprint and the "final climb" to Alpe Cermis as the clear favorite. The Sarner Michael Hellweger had to withdraw after the first stage of the Tour de Ski due to severe back pain.
