“Almost unbeatable”: Kläbo on a gold mission

The Nordic World Championships are a real home game for cross-country skiing superstar Johannes Hösflot Kläbo.

The World Cup dominator from Trondheim wants to significantly increase his impressive gold collection in front of tens of thousands of fans. In the opening skating sprint on Thursday, the serial winner in the short distance can really only beat himself. The Olympic champion's most likely threat comes from his fellow countrymen, but one of the favorites, Erik Valnes, is out injured.

If Kläbo triumphs, he would catch up with the legendary Björn Dählie with his tenth world title. Theoretically, he could also catch up with record world champion Petter Northug, who has collected 13 world titles, in Trondheim. Two years ago in Planica, Kläbo secured three gold and two silver medals.

Kläbo "almost unbeatable"

Kläbo was slowed down by flu in the run-up to the World Cup, but despite a one-week break from training he still won the World Cup sprint dress rehearsal in Falun. "He is almost unbeatable," said Valnes, who was forced to watch because of a back injury. In the current World Cup, Kläbo won all seven sprints that he has competed in. He has also had several successes in distance races and the Tour de Ski.
