At the home World Cup: Will Klæbo be the best of all time?

The Nordic World Championships are a real home game for cross-country skiing superstar Johannes Hösflot Klæbo. The World Cup dominator from Trondheim wants to significantly increase his impressive gold collection in front of tens of thousands of fans.

In the opening skating sprint on Thursday, the serial winner on the short distance can only beat himself. The Olympic champion's most likely threat comes from his compatriots around Erik Valnes.

If Klæbo triumphs, he would catch up with the legendary Björn Dæhlie with his tenth world title. Theoretically, he could also catch up with record world champion Petter Northug, who has collected 13 world titles, in Trondheim. Two years ago in Planica, Klæbo secured three gold and two silver medals.

Klæbo "almost unbeatable"

Klæbo was slowed down by flu in the run-up to the World Championships, but despite a one-week break from training he still won the World Championship sprint dress rehearsal in Falun. "He is almost unbeatable," said Valnes about his almost overwhelming teammate. In the current World Cup, Kläbo won all seven sprints that he has competed in. He has also had several successes in distance races and the Tour de Ski.
