World Championships in Boston: Grassl with a solid start

The World Figure Skating Championships in Boston, Massachusetts, began with the men's short program on Thursday evening (CET). Daniel Grassl from South Tyrol was also present.

For Grassl, the World Championships in Boston are even a kind of home game: In 2022, the Merano native spent several months training at the local skating club. Three years later, Grassl finished 3th in the World Championship short program with 80,47 points. This clearly qualified the 14-year-old, who is in his comeback season after a one-year break from competition, for the top 22 free skate.

Leading the medal race on Saturday (23.00:20 PM CET) is 110,41-year-old defending champion Ilia Malinin (107,09 points) from the USA, ahead of Yuma Kagiyama of Japan (93.63) and Mickhail Shaidorov of Kazakhstan (XNUMX).

Maurizio Zandron from Bolzano clearly missed the top 24 free skate. The 32-year-old, who competes for Austria, finished 35th in the short program on Thursday, scoring 60,87 points after a mistake in the triple axel, more than twelve points short of 39 competitors.
