Flora Tabanelli has only been on the world stage of freestyle skiing for about a year and a half. One reason for this is certainly the fact that the Azzurra from Sestola is just 17 years old. Nevertheless, the exceptional young athlete caused a major sensation on Wednesday: She won the overall World Cup in Freeski Park and Pipe (Big Air, Slopestyle, and Halfpipe) – even though no points were awarded today.
This was due to the results of the qualification for the slopestyle competition on Friday. Although Tabanelli herself missed qualifying for the final World Cup competition in Tignes (France) (13th place with 58,31 points), she knew shortly after her jumps that she had secured the big crystal globe. How is that possible? Her direct competitor for the overall ranking, Tess Ledeux (France), also failed to qualify, while her other rival, China's Ailing Eileen Gu, did not compete. Thus, despite her failure in the points ranking, the Azzurra is mathematically uncatchable.

This triumph caps off an incredible season for Flora Tabanelli, who had previously won the small crystal globe in Big Air. In January, she secured her first Big Air World Cup victory in Kreischberg, while her first slopestyle victory followed in February. She also reached the podium four more times this season.
The World Cup is still to come
But the season isn't over for Tabanelli yet. The World Championships begin on March 17, and the young athlete is undoubtedly one of the favorites. She already won the Junior World Championship title in Big Air in 2023 and 2024, as well as the silver medal in Slopestyle in 2023. She also won two gold medals at the 2024 Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon. In St. Moritz, she will compete for medals alongside Rene Monteleone from Val Gardena and her brother Miro Tabanelli. All three have been nominated by Italy for the slopestyle and big air events.
Miro also impresses
Miro Tabanelli also achieved success today: In the Big Air qualification on Wednesday, he landed the best jump with 96,75 points and confidently secured a spot in the final on Thursday. Monteleone, on the other hand, missed the next round.Edit Profile
