Baumgartner and Verginer behind at the halfway point of the World Cup

At the Bobsleigh World Championships in Lake Placid, Canada, a thriller for gold is looming in the two-man bobsleigh. The two South Tyroleans Patrick Baumgartner and Alex Verginer, however, had to line up further back in the first two runs.

Patrick Baumgartner and his partner Robert Mircea finished in 14th place. Overall, the azure blue duo are 2,08 seconds behind the German leaders Francesco Friedrich and Alexander Schüller. Alex Verginer and Riccardo Ragazzi are in joint 19th place after two runs. The two are 2,83 seconds behind, as are the Brazilians Edson Luques Bindilatti and Edson Ricardo Martins.

The battle for World Championship gold is now being fought out between Friedrich/Schüller and their compatriots Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer (+0,14). Thanks to Adam Ammour and Benedikt Hertel (+0,33), the German bobsledders even have a chance of a triple victory. To do this, however, Ammour and Hertel must fend off the Americans Frank Del Duca and Charles Volker (+0,50). The starting signal for the final battle for the title will be given in Lake Placid at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday.
