Prevc siblings set the tone – Insam scores no points

Alex Insam and Jessica Malsiner are still searching for their best form. The pair from Val Gardena failed to qualify for the second round on Saturday in Klingenthal (Germany), where Domen and Nika Prevc took the victories.

Domen Prevc took advantage of favorable wind conditions in the first round and triumphed with the longest jump in both rounds. In the ninth competition of the season, the Slovenian, who extended his lead in the overall Ski Jumping World Cup standings, reached the podium for the sixth time. Earlier at the same venue, Domen's sister Nika had finished ahead of Friday's winner Nozomi Maruyama (Japan) and Anna Odine Stroem (Norway).

Stefan Kraft, a new father who recently took a break for the birth of his first child, finished second in the men's competition. After a nine-day break from the ski jump, he had no trouble getting back into form in Germany. With jumps of 132,5 and 133,5 meters, he was only outmatched by the current top performer, Prevc. The winner had a lead of 25,5 points.

“I couldn’t have imagined it any better. To be back on the podium right away is wonderful,” said Kraft. He had missed ski jumping, but he had experienced something incredible at home, referring to the birth of his child. “It seems that the happiness, adrenaline, and emotions traveled with me to Klingenthal. It worked out perfectly.” The podium was completed by Germany’s Philipp Raimund.

South Tyroleans have no chance

Alex Insam made it through the qualifying round (49th), but the 28-year-old's first jump went awry, and he had to settle for 47th place. Among the women, Annika Sieff (17th) and Martina Zanitzer (30th) both finished in the points. Jessica Malsiner, however, failed to qualify (43rd).
