On Friday, Alex Insam celebrated breaking the national record with a flight of 234 meters. 24 hours later, no more joyful moments followed. The 27-year-old from Selva reached the final, but messed up the final and finished the competition in 29th place. At least, there's another individual flight scheduled for Sunday. This gives Insam the chance to ensure a positive end to the season.
On Friday, the Val Gardena native jumped 206 m in the first round, resulting in 26th place. Instead of pushing forward in the final, he slipped back three places (196,5 m) due to a botched takeoff. He was a whopping 94,1 points behind the winner, Domen Prevc (Slovenia).

The large hill world champion reached the podium for the first time in his career in Planica, edging out fellow countryman Anze Lanisek in the second run. Ryoyu Kobayashi of Japan finished third. With fourth place, Daniel Tschofenig (Austria) also secured the Crystal Globe. Before the final ski jump on Sunday, his closest rival, Jan Hörl, is no longer able to dislodge him from the top spot.
