Galli and Deromedis celebrate in Georgia

The Italian ski crossers continued their series of successes in Gudauri: Jole Galli triumphed with a spectacular comeback, while Simone Deromedis defended his lead in the overall ranking with third place.

The Italian ski cross festival in Georgia continued on Saturday. After Simone Deromedis from Trentino won on Friday, the 24-year-old again made it onto the podium in the second race on Saturday. He had already proven in the qualification with the second fastest time that the course in Gudauri particularly suits him.

In the top-class final, the Trentino rider had to admit defeat to Canadian Reece Howden and his competitor for the crystal globe, Florian Wilmsmann from Germany. Ryan Regez from Switzerland was the unfortunate fourth. With his 14th podium finish, however, Deromedis remained at the top of the overall rankings with a lead of 99 points over Wilmsmann.

Dominik Zuech from Lana once again showed a good performance and was eliminated in the quarterfinals, which meant 14th place for him, while Yanick Gunsch came 31st.

"Magical Feeling"

There was also jubilation in the women's race, where Jole Galli celebrated her second victory of the season. With a spectacular comeback in the final, the athlete from Livigno once again demonstrated her determination and strong form. She won ahead of the Swiss Fanny Smith and the Canadian Courtney Hoffos.

"I tried to put as much pressure on as possible," said Jole Galli at the finish. "My skis were really fast today. In the spot that probably cost me the win yesterday, I was able to use the decisive moment today to overtake Fanny Smith. It's a magical feeling."

The World Cup now moves on to Canada for the stop in Craigleith on March 14 and 15, which will be preceded by two qualifying days. This will be followed by the World Championships in St. Moritz and the final in Idre Fjäll.
