The next trick by Simone Deromedis

Simone Deromedis from Trentino has extended his lead in the overall Ski Cross World Cup. On Friday, the 24-year-old won the race in Gudauri (Georgia).

Almost exactly two years ago, Simone Deromedis' star rose in Bakuriani when he unexpectedly became world champion. In 2024, he celebrated another World Cup victory there. And this year, too, he is beaming from the top step of the podium in Georgia. After setting the fastest time in the qualification in Gudauri, he was also unbeatable in the finals. With the victory, the Italian extended his lead in the overall World Cup over Florian Wilmsmann to 119 points.

In the final, the ski crosser from Predaia left the Japanese surprise man Ryo Sugai and the Swede Erik Mobärg behind. "In Georgia I won the world championship title in 2023, last year I followed up in the World Cup and today I have consolidated my lead in the overall standings. I couldn't ask for more," said the Trentino native.

Strong Zuech

Dominik Zuech also had a very good race. After qualifying for seventh place, the 29-year-old from Lana made it through the round of 9 before losing out to Melvin Tchiknavorian (France) and Christopher Del Bosco (USA) in the quarter-finals. He ultimately finished 23th. Yanick Gunsch had to settle for XNUMXrd place.

Italy also celebrated success in the women's race. Jole Galli, who recently won her first World Cup at the San Pellegrino Pass, came second. Only Fanny Smith (Switzerland) was faster than the 29-year-old. The podium was completed by Canada's India Sherret. Another race will take place in Georgian winter sports on Saturday.
