Marmotta Trophy: Italian ends dry spell

It was a first: Robin Galindo celebrated his first World Cup victory on the circuit in Martell. Third place in the six-man final went to the Belgian Maximilian Drion du Chapois, who was pleased with his first podium result in the World Cup. The 26-year-old lost 0,87 seconds to Galindo, who had set the second-fastest time in his quarterfinal heat and won the semifinals to reach the decider.

Nicolò Canclini was unlucky. In the only “Azzurro” in the six-man final, the skin came off the ski after a few meters - that meant the competition was over for the 27-year-old from Valdisotto (Bormio). Canclini, who has already been on the podium four times this year (including relays), ended up sixth. With Giovanni Rossi (7th) and Luca Tomasoni (10th) – both eliminated in the semi-finals – two other athletes from the Italian national team made it into the top ten in Martell.

Emily Harrop for third In the women's race, Emily Harrop showed why she is the queen of Martell in the sprint. The 26-year-old, who narrowly missed the podium in fourth place in the individual at this year's Marmotta Trophy on Thursday, took revenge three days later with victory in the sprint and celebrated her third triumph in a row in the shortest race format in the Valley of the Berries. Harrop was the fastest in the qualification, then confidently won the quarter and semi-finals before losing out to her compatriot Célia Perillat-Pessey (+3,50) and the “Azzurra” Giulia Murada (+9,62) in the final and literally flew towards her seventh victory of the season in the World Cup.

In addition to Murada, Katia Mascherona (9th) and Giulia Compagnoni (11th) made it into the semi-finals for Italy, where the two ski mountaineers had to give up.

A successful Marmotta Trophy comes to an end The Marmotta Trophy 2024 officially came to an end on Sunday with two extremely exciting sprint competitions that were extremely attractive to the audience. The World Cup entourage is now moving on towards Schladming am Dachstein, where a vertical and a sprint are on the program next weekend. After the extremely successful edition of the Marmotta Trophy, the hope is more than justified that the Würht Modyf ISMF World Cup will also pitch its tents next year in South Tyrol's ski mountaineering stronghold.

And that even though I didn't have a good feeling after qualifying and finishing 16th. But I pulled myself together, pooled all my strength and told myself in every run of the knockout phase that I just had to push, push and push again. That was my strategy, it worked and now I’m just happy.”

Emily Harrop (France/winner): “I love this route. It's a little longer than usual, with lots of different passages, flatter and more technical sections. In 2021 I was able to celebrate my first podium in the World Cup here in Martell and things have been going really well since then. So of course I’m very happy.”

Giulia Murada (Italy/3rd place): “I’m finally back on the podium! I'm incredibly happy because the last few weeks and months haven't been easy and the start of the season was really complicated. I felt a little better recently, but the podium wasn't coming. Today was finally the day and I'm especially happy for those people who support me, because they also work very hard for my success. That’s why I want to thank them.”
