“Very special”: Aaron March is on cloud nine.
Aaron March had to wait twelve World Cup races before he could finally stand atop the podium in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The emotions were correspondingly high on Saturday evening after this long dry spell.

Aaron March had already proven in the past that he felt right at home in the Olympic venue. He had reached the podium three times – but a victory had eluded him on the relatively flat slope. That changed on Saturday evening when the 39-year-old left everyone else in his wake. Remarkably, after four wins in the parallel slalom, it was his first in the giant slalom.
“This victory is very special. I love Cortina. To win here is truly the greatest thing. I like night races, and I felt in top form right from the start. I am overjoyed and dedicate this victory to everyone responsible for making this great race possible for us every year,” said March after his triumph. “It’s a track where you have to push hard in certain places to build up speed: experience pays off here. It’s no coincidence that Benjamin Karl and I were both in the final at 40 years old.”
Even the boss is thrilled.
With his second podium finish of the season, the South Tyrolean skier jumped to second place in the overall standings. The gap to Maurizio Bormolini, who finished third on Saturday, is now only 15 points. In this form, the veteran is not only a strong contender for Thursday's race at the Karerpass, but also for the Olympic Games. Unfortunately for him, the Olympic races will be held in Livigno, not Cortina.Technical director Cesare Pisoni was also full of praise on Saturday: “Three races and three different winners – that’s a sign of our team’s strength. They’re all fighting tooth and nail for Olympic qualification. It’s truly impressive; they’re all doing incredible things.”
