Two South Tyroleans on the podium: These snowboarders are crazy!

The local parallel snowboarders continue to be a force to be reckoned with this season! On Saturday, two South Tyroleans landed on the podium, although a winning streak came to an end.

The parallel snowboard World Cup season is currently reminiscent of the Italian Championships. In the four races so far, the winner has always worn an azure blue suit, including South Tyroleans Aaron March and Roland Fischnaller. This streak came to an end in the fifth race, when Austrian Arvid Auner triumphed in the parallel slalom in Davos on Saturday. Nevertheless, two South Tyroleans also celebrated on the podium in the end: Gabriel Messner came second, the extremely in-form March Third.

A look at the results so far shows the dominance of the Italians: Of 15 possible podium finishes, eleven (!) went to the Italian snowboarders. An impressive achievement, especially in an Olympic season. However, Saturday's race in Davos should be approached with caution, as it was the first parallel slalom of the season. This discipline is not part of the Olympic program, unlike the parallel giant slalom.

March and Messner impressed in the qualifying rounds, finishing second and sixth respectively, and continued their strong form in the knockout rounds. The two South Tyroleans faced each other in the semifinals, with Messner emerging victorious. He was defeated by Arvid Auner in the final, while March secured the bronze medal against Dario Caviezel. Roland Fischnaller, Fabian Lantschner, Edwin Coratti, Marc Hofer, and Tommy Rabanser were eliminated in the qualifying round.

Italy wins in the women's competition

There was no Italian winner in the men's competition this time, but there was in the women's. Elisa Caffont celebrated her first World Cup victory. The snowboarder from Belluno, who has already stood on the podium several times, prevailed in the final against Zuzana Maderova of the Czech Republic – and only in a photo finish. Jasmin Coratti finished the race in 15th place. Now the snowboarders are taking a Christmas break, before returning on January 10th with the parallel giant slalom in Scuol, Switzerland.
