It is an exciting time for Dominik Fischnaller. A few weeks ago, South Tyrolean luge star was able to one of the first to use the newly built Olympic track in Cortina d'Ampezzo test, then he has almost completed his own home in Meransen. And now, love is on the way: Last Friday, the 32-year-old married his American girlfriend Emily Sweeney (32) in Mühlbach.
"It was a small but very special ceremony with our closest family," says the newlywed husband. He and his wife Emily have been the dream couple of the luge scene for many years, as Sweeney also competes in the ice track, chasing thousandths of a second. Now the South Tyrolean and the American have tied the knot.
Honeymoon at home
The honeymoon, however, will have to wait, as Fischnaller reveals. "We're currently fully occupied with building our house, so we'll spend our honeymoon at home for now," the former overall World Cup winner grins. "But we're already at a good point; we're just missing a few little details."Dominik and Emily are enjoying their time together in early summer in South Tyrol. And, of course, they're also training hard. Fischnaller gets excited when he talks about the new ice track in Cortina d'Ampezzo. "It was a really great feeling to go down there," says the luger. "Even though everything around the track was still under construction, and our toboggans were brought up by a crane, the track itself was in top condition, as was the organization around it. You could see that everyone was motivated," says Fischnaller.

He and his fellow lugers are now facing a first: For the first time, they'll be completing the majority of their training on a local ice track. "It's a fantastic feeling. Until now, we always had to find somewhere to train, but now we have priority and can train on the Olympic track," explains Fischnaller. Yes, you could say things are really going well for the model athlete from Meransen.
