Pircher becomes a lion: “It’s really cool”

In mid-March, a report made waves that Maximilian Pircher was no longer part of the Los Angeles Rams squad. The man from Brixen reassured SportNews and promised an early return. Ultimately, however, things turned out differently - the 23-year-old will play for the Detroit Lions in the future.

On March 13th, last year's Super Bowl winner announced that Maximilian Pircher had been cut from the team. Because of his status as a player in the so-called International Pathway Program (IPP), the South Tyrolean does not burden the Rams' squad size. As noted journalist Jourdan Rodrigue, who follows the Rams wherever they go, suggested that the trade-off helped Los Angeles get under cap space.

“They have already done the same thing for the last two years, but have not communicated it publicly,” Pircher emphasized SportNews End of April. “It's a piece of paper, a formality.” Accordingly, the offensive lineman should have been accepted back into the Rams' team, his agents assured him. Eventually, however, it came to move to Detroit.

Great anticipation

“I prepared normally in the offseason. I finally found out about the Lions' interest through my agents at IPP. After a short consultation with my family and my fiancée, we decided to take this step,” reports the South Tyrolean. “They have a good team, good coaches and good infrastructure. I've already completed my first training sessions, it's really cool. “I’m very happy,” Pircher enthuses. The goal for the new season is to fight for a regular place on the offensive line.

In addition to the hard daily training routine, he has something else on the agenda. “Me and my fiancée Katy are currently planning our wedding, which will take place in next year’s offseason.” Turbulent days in the Pircher house.
