After an impressive comeback, the Californians defeated the New York Yankees 7-6 and celebrated the decisive fourth victory in the fifth game of the final series. In the duel between two flagships of the league, the Dodgers were already 27-0 behind against the record winners from New York (5 titles), but still managed to turn things around and win 7-6.
Led by Most Valuable Player Freddie Freeman and aided by errors from the hosts, the Dodgers tied the game at five in the fifth inning. "When you get extra outs in this game, you have to take advantage of it. We did that in this inning," Freeman said.
Freeman calls for a party
During the party in the locker room, he praised his team - with ski goggles on his head to protect himself from the shower of drinks. "From day one, we knew we had a good team," said the 35-year-old, calling for a night of partying: "We're going to celebrate this for a long time, because it's just hard to win championships in this game... with this group of guys, we can finally put on a parade for LA."In Los Angeles, the celebrations escalated. © APA/afp / FREDERIC J. After the triumph, the peaceful celebrations of the Dodgers fans in Los Angeles got out of control. After fireworks were initially set off, the police reported a "hostile crowd" that set a bus on fire. At another intersection, projectiles and fireworks were fired at the police when they tried to break up a gathering. The police later also reported looting in the city center.
